PHYSICAL AND

MENTAL HEALTH

As an organization of predominantly African American women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is uniquely positioned to impact not only the well-being of its membership, but also the well-being of families and communities at large. The signature Physical and Mental Health Call to Action is the Journey to Wellness: Committing our Bodies to Physical and Mental Health program. The initiative addresses the challenges of living holistic and health lives. The three-pronged approach to Journey to Wellness includes:

  1. Physical Activity and Healthy Eating;

  2. Physical Health: Chronic Diseases; and

  3. Mental Health

The Physical and Mental Health committee of the Lake Charles Alumnae Chapter (LCAC) seeks to achieve the physical and mental health initiatives recognized by Grand Chapter within our local community and to raise awareness and educate our members about health issues.  This Delta year has been filled with numerous activities, events and information focused on improving our individual physical and mental health and the health of those in the communities we serve. We participate in the Southwest Louisiana Sickle Cell Walk, Ethel Precht Breast Cancer Walk.  We have a challenge within our chapter “Walking to New Orleans”, this will measure our activity and steps as we focus on our next national convention. Spring 2019 we will kick with a large health and fitness health fair.
